Where did you come from, where did you go?

Starting Young

I actually started writing at a very young age; myself and my classmates in primary school had a book of poetry and short stories published, which even though we only had about 30 copies made for posterity and our families, it was still a pretty exciting thing. I probably still have it lying around somewhere....

I had my first officially published work in 2010 when I was around 17 years old and I did some work experience at a local paper. They were happy to let me write an article about the prolonged boredom that can sometimes arise during the six weeks summer holiday when you suddenly have so much time on your hands.

During the Pandemic I realised it was roughly ten years since I wrote that article and wrote a follow up piece, and bizarrely Covid and lockdown made it seem like not much had changed.

Studying, writing, filming, voicing and creating

Fast forward through 3 years of university studying and creating various project mediums for my media and communication degree, a few years of working in a media agency and I found myself working in radio in my hometown. Initially I was responsible for the commercial digital output of the station, which I was surprisingly successful at despite my AV background – I even won an award.

In the face of a takeover I managed to move across to a vacant creative writer role whilst maintaining my digital responsibilities. Despite doing some video and audio work at uni, it’s here I actually managed to combine it all together, along with voice work. I was always the person doing funny voices and impressions growing up, so naturally I loved writing scripts and producing demos for clients, even better when they were happy for my voice to go on the finished product.

Despite the pandemic being the cause for my split with radio after several years, I wasn’t going to let it stop me doing what I love.

Now I’m here, ready to put the experiences I’ve had and the skills I have to good use, hopefully for you!
